12:59p It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
The bad news is that it's been starting to look like it for WEEKS now. Seriously. WEEKS. As in there were still Halloween things up when Christmas stuff started popping up on people's houses and lawns and such, and being TURNED ON!! There have been lights LIT on O Street for weeks now! I've seen the Twelve Days of Christmas decorations up for ages now too--and one store had a toy soldier lit up. South Pointe's been Christmased up already too. *shakes head* And Christmas music is playing intermittently on the radio--although there was a distinct WTF moment for me when a Sirius station billed as "love songs" was playing nonstop Christmas music. Um. Yeah. They HAVE a Christmas-only station! What the hell are they taking over the love songs for?!
Now, in Nebraska, since the weather is a game of Russian Roulette in November, it's reasonably understandable that people get things up early so they aren't trying to do it in snow. But having it up is one thing. Having it TURNED ON is quite another. Standard protocol states that Christmas decorations may be turned on and such after Thanksgiving, or on Thanksgiving night. That'd be TOMORROW, kids. Oy.
Anyway, after tomorrow, Christmas me up. I'll take it then. But when you see turkeys AND candy canes up at the SAME HOUSE... it's a little weird.
In the meantime, bright blessings on all your Thanksgivings out there.

12:54p Daily Buddhist Wisdom
By charity, goodness, restraint, and self-control men and woman alike can store up a well-hidden treasure -- a treasure which cannot be given to others and which robbers cannot steal. A wise person should do good -- that is the treasure which will not leave one.

So one of my test grades got /lost/ in Floral Design. I'll have to hope I can find the corrected test so I can get my grade to my TA, because I am /not/ taking the average on that test. I know I did better than that.
If I can't find it, well, I don't know how it'll work out. But this is kind of...okay, really...annoying.
I also need to figure out what I'm doing for my final paper in Japanese Lit so I can get the abstract in tomorrow. With sources. I have no idea what I want to write about.

11:20p blah blah disgaea blah
Disgaea 2 stats
Play time: 204 hours Max damage: 203,407 Max level: 3,246 (to be fair, this is Mao, who came on level 3,200. My highest-leveled character who didn't COME on a high level is my thief, who weighs in at 1,317).
Item world visits: 214 Item world levels: 1939
Have defeated: Prism Red, Asagi, Kurtis, Mid-Boss, Priere, Marjoly, Flonne, Laharl (all three times), Zetta, Champloo, Raspberyl, and Mao. (YOU'RE NEXT, BAAL.)
Have collected: 71.39% of all weapons (it counts three separate times for common, rare, and legendary), 88.62% of all armor, 62.80% of the "misc" category.
In other news, I'm experimenting with monster classes. I've never really liked them, but since I mostly play during my obnoxious hour-and-a-half commute to school, I've decided to dick around with them a little. For the most part, I got exactly what I expected... Tink may be invaluable in the Item World, and Zetta has saved my ass more times than I'd like to admit back when I was pirate hunting, but monsters tend to be a little too gimmicky for me, and lacking the flexibility of human classes. Even with the magichange retconned in from Disgaea 3, monster classes kind of suck.
At least, I thought that until I made a Deathsaber
DEATHSABERS ARE FUCKING AMAZING.
Known as Saber Cats in Disgaea 3 or Saber Kitties in Phantom Brave, I have found that Disgaea 2's name of "Deathsaber" is, in fact, the most accurate one. Their innate ability is a 10% bonus for every step they take. If you give one a pair of Angel Sandals, you can do +70% damage on every turn. I'm going to level up said Angel Sandals later and add even more MV. 8D They also have a nice extra +1% added to each step for every ten Evil Cat Lovers you have (btw, NipponIchi, nice job on not even being able to have naming consistency within the same game). On top of that, it has highly excellent moves - one for hitting a single target, one for draining HP from three enemies in a row, and one for hitting five in a cross. There might not be any 3x3 attack grids that you'd get with swords or fists, but I don't even care. This dumb-looking, derpy little creature was doing truncated damage (if a character does more than 100k damage, the game starts abbreviating it) on the extremely modest level of 581, to a set of enemies TWICE ITS LEVEL. Even now, at lv 800, it keeps up with my lv 1000-1200 party without a problem. It actually does better than some of them.
Good kitty.

2:48p Passing ENDA - Call your reps! National Call-In Day for Equality
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=180630476026&ref=nf
As we move closer to a House vote on the Employment Non-Discrimination, we need to burn up the phone lines to Congress, and let them know that ENDA is next, ENDA is NOW! We must let Congress know how important ENDA is to LGBT people and all those who care about equality. With your help we can end job discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Tomorrow is the National Call-In Day for Equality. It’s the day when we flood Congress with our calls demanding equality in the workplace. Tomorrow, talk to Congress. Call them at (202) 224-3121. Give your zip code and ask to be connected to your Senators, and then your Representative. If you haven’t contacted your elected officials, NOW IS THE TIME. Let them know that you support ENDA and you want them to support it, too. If you already have, please do it again.
Prefer to email your representative and senators? Click here and urge them to pass ENDA.
Talk to your friends, family and neighbors and let them know. Start with the simple opening: "Did you know that Congress is considering workplace legislation? Did you know that only 40% of the country is covered are clear laws protecting LGBT people from discrimination?" Ask the people in your life how they feel about that. Then tell them they can help protect people from discrimination based on who they are--ask them to take action.
Share this event with your friends and family and ask them to join this event and pledge an email or phone call to Congress.
It just takes a minute to do your part to end discrimination in the work place.

10:22p Titleless Post is Untitled
Okay. Well. It's November. Dear Gods, kill me now. Hates November. Hates it forevers. On the plus side, it has been a remarkably mild November for the state of Nebraska weatherwise. Or, at least it was. The last two days have brought in the cold, grey, icky, half-assed-drizzliness-that-may-or-may-not-become-snow that characterizes November at the point where the alleged poetic beauty of autumn is gasping its last but winter is still dragging its heels to get here. Oh YAY.
Been crafting away, though. For the holiday crafting list:
Little Jen: COMPLETED. Zanne: COMPLETED. Except maybe for some blocking, which isn't strictly necessary in this case. Becky: Probably about a day or so from completion--it's going remarkably quickly considering my needles for this project are roughly the size of frickin' toothpicks. Seriously. Trying to get through it ASAP, though, because I really, really want one of these for myself too. Ed: Have materials, but haven't started work yet. According to the pattern, though, should be a fairly quick and simple knit. But, that's what they ALL say, isn't it? Anyway, yours is probably going to be the next on the working block. Amanda: Have materials, and have attempted to start work I don't know HOW many times now. The patternmaker claims she whipped it up over a weekend, but apparently I chose a very evil (but very very pretty!) yarn for this and it keeps trying to not do what it's supposed to do. This will invariably take some fighting. And possibly a whip. Forgive me if this one runs a little late. ^_^; Dani: Have materials, but not yet started work. Still trying to reconfigure the pattern to turn a hand towel and two washcloths into a single scarf pattern--mostly it's the edging that's throwing me. Should be an easy knit once the pattern particulars are ironed out, though. Paul: I think I have materials all ready--still deciding how much is going to be done in pure pipecleaners and how much real fabric I want to use for this. But, thankfully Pipecleaner People can usually be whipped up in an afternoon or two. UO: Have a plan for you, but, honestly, it's on the backburner, love. Because you are getting OTHER pretty pretty shinies from me. Maybe for your birthday or next year or something if I don't complete it this year. But, once done, it should go marvelously with the OTHER fabric-based things I've made for you. ^_~ James: Theoretically, this should be easy to do, at least once I get printer ink and transfer paper. Let's see how well my scanner cooperates, though. They should still have plain white t-shirts along the back wall of Hobby Lobby by the time I'm ready, but if I have to do much fighting, this is going to likely wind up a birthday present.
Hmm. Usually I'm further along than this. Then again, last year I was only working part-time rather than full-time. Plus having to do Adrian's Halloween costume by hand slowed me down too--but he was still the cutest little Link you ever did see. No, really. And people RECOGNIZED him as Link, without my prompting! Well, some did. Others thought he was anything from an elf to Robin Hood to Peter Pan. Hmm. And, I, of course, looked smashing as always in that dress. It was pretty funny, though. Adrian saw me dressed up and immediately asked "Mommy, are you princess?" Now, generally, I don't wear a tiara with the red dress--I usually wrap a bit of silver trimming in my hair instead, but Adrian refused to let me go anywhere without my tiara, insisting, "No, NO, Mommy! You PRINCESS!" So. Damned. Cute. Also, a tip from the expert: if you take children trick-or-treating, wear a costume yourself, especially if you have young children that need to be escorted all the way to the door. Lots of houses will give double treats if the chaperones dress up too, apparently.
Oh, and we do have a treat for you today! Yes, we have more Lucian! In fact, I have a LOT of Lucian. But, I assure you, it will be worth it! We have canon yaoi! Gay marriage! Pederasty that isn't pederasty! Cheese sweat! Honey snot! Flying grilled frogs! And lots and lots of penises! Oh, yes, the little group I'm working among on this had an absolute BALL with this whole section. Because we're all secretly twelve. Yes, Part 10 is long, including another excision removed to protect the innocent minds of Victorian schoolboys, but wonderfully amusing. It's Day 75. And here we go! Um, be warned, though. Not all of this text is exactly work-safe, as they say:

10:59a Well, this was Dumb
I am this close to asking my aunt if I can spend Thanksgiving Break camped out in her sunroom (or the garage) writing and drawing, and be excused from dinner prep and family socializing. Because, despite not doing NaNo, I am feeling overwrought with projects. I did finish my scifibigbang fic (only two weeks after I was supposed to do the rough draft), and am working on my slayers_request fic. The outline looks long, so I might have to go at NaNo rates to get it done in time to edit. Plus, I need to rewatch some anime for yuletide, and I missed MAX entirely*, and gah!
It didn't help that I spent this weekend feeling sick to my stomach sporadically -- tea and quiet time away from the computer seemed to help. And I'm not entirely sure it isn't stress, since it's coming back as I write this. So now I get to spend today doing grading that I meant to do over the weekend -- if I didn't have group therapy, I'd be camping in Borders to avoid the Internets**. And tomorrow there's dinner with the DGS, which I am tempted to skip work before so I can bake and get my kitchen clean enough that I can call in someone to fix my garbage disposal and find out why the sink drains so slowly.
* As much as I love the Anniversary round, I might drop MAX until January just to give myself time to recuperate. And bow out of mrcaex in December as well.
** A lot of the off-campus coffee shops around here have a 'fifteen minutes every hour for free' policy. Their firewalls don't block ssh or ftp programs, though, so I can still remotely work from them, just not use email or my web browser or chat programs.
